End of Summer

Today is the last day of August, and even though it stays pretty warm in the south through at least mid-October, I begin to think about fall right about now. Wrapping up summer is kind of sad. The kids have been back in school since the 15th of August, and they are beginning to settle in with their new teachers. Matthew is in fourth grade and is being drilled on those wonderful multiplication facts. Jonathan is a freshman in high school and is taking honors English, Geometry, Biology, and World History. In addition, he is in the Freshmen band class and is taking Spanish I and PE. He is at school until after 6 PM at least 3 days a week for marching band practice. Yes...football season is here! I love it, although it makes for a busy time of year!

This summer was what I would call "forgettable." Not trying to be a negative "Nancy," but we didn't get to plan and do a lot. Ed went to England for a week for part of his course work in working on his PhD. I had foot surgery (an Osteotomy) on my right foot. That put me out of commission for the most part for six weeks. I am still recovering. We did manage to get in a couple of weekend beach trips right before school started, and we have been taking advantage of the pool lately.

Although I am sad to see summer end (I miss my boys when they go back to school), I look forward to pulling out the fall decorations and sprucing up the house. I even cleaned out our "office" closet this morning! :)

I'm Still Here!

We are still alive! I know...I've been a terrible blogger lately. Since the tornado in April, it has been all about fixing up the yard and house (and baseball...that's another story.) Here is a photo of our house with the new paint colors and fewer trees. I took this shot right after getting a photo of a gorgeous double rainbow. It was the first one I had ever seen.

The tornado had dumped a lot of stuff in the pool, and upon inspection, we discovered several holes in the liner. The folks should finish installing the new liner today, so in the mean time....here's how we've cooled off.

I also had to show you the photo of this little guy. His moma built a nest in a box on a top shelf in our garage. Well, when they all left the nest, this little one got left behind. He could fly...just not well. He was so exhausted from trying to get out of the garage. After he got out, I'm not sure what happened to him, but hopefully he survived.

Hopefully now that my computer area and scrapbook room are de-cluttered, I will be better about blogging. My sister-in-law and her kids are coming Sunday afternoon to stay for several days. Soon I should be able to post more summer pictures. Have a great Fourth of July everyone!

Summer Randomness

This week has convinced me that even in the summer, I need routine. I need a regular bedtime (for me and the kids) and a regular getting up time. Otherwise, I get so little done, and I don't enjoy the week as much.
We have hung out at home pretty much all week, except for a dentist appointment for Matthew yesterday, and doctor's appointment for me today. Matthew got a filling (don't get me started about how I feel about this...), and I got the results of my blood work and a recheck of my blood pressure, which was awesome by the way ( It was 122/76...lowest it has been in years).
Tonight, since I have cooked all week, we are going to a pizza buffet.
Got a call from Jonathan's coach last night, and he needs another player on the All-Star team. Not sure how that's going to pan out...we'll see. But he heads out for practice tomorrow morning.
Looking forward to at least one beach weekend this month, and we're hoping to book a cruise in the near future. I'm sooooo ready for a vacation! Until next time.....See ya!
